Northside Training is a professional development and training provider based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. We deliver CPD courses, longer-form professional training and practitioner groups for counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical supervisors and workplace professionals - whatever modality you work in.
Our own courses draw on frameworks including transactional analysis and Imago relationship therapy. We also share training from trusted professional colleagues working in areas such as ecotherapy and psychosexual practice - people whose work we rate and want to help reach a wider audience. The common thread is that everything on our programme has a focus on application. You should leave a Northside course with something you can use in your next session, not just a certificate.
We're led by Andy Williams, a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst with 25+ years of clinical experience, alongside a team of trainers who each bring a different specialism and clinical background.
About Northside Training
Our Approach
We keep groups small, so there's space to think and ask questions rather than just listen. Most of our courses mix taught input with discussion, case examples and practical exercises - whether that's a two-hour CPD workshop on ADHD in the therapy room or a year-long diploma in supervision.
We run short CPD workshops, structured courses in couples therapy, group work and clinical supervision, ongoing practitioner groups, and introductory programmes like the TA101. Alongside our own courses, we use our platform to share training from professional colleagues whose work we believe in - things like ecotherapy and psychosexual practice that you might not otherwise come across.
We offer a mix of in-person training in Leeds and online delivery, depending on the course. Some workshops are also available as recordings for those who can't attend live.
Whatever the format, we want people to feel welcome and comfortable enough to participate. Everyone who trains with us brings with them different experiences, different questions and a different way of working - and we think that's something to value.
Who Trains With Us
Most of the people who train with us are qualified or trainee counsellors, psychotherapists, and clinical supervisors. You don't need to work within a particular modality - we get people from person-centred, integrative, psychodynamic, CBT and relational backgrounds, among others. Some come for CPD hours, some are building a new area of practice like couples work or supervision, and some just want to get better at what they already do.
We also work with people who aren't therapists at all. HR professionals, social workers, teachers, managers - anyone in a role where understanding relationships, communication and behaviour matters. Courses like the TA101, Working with Groups and some of our CPD workshops are just as relevant if you're trying to have better conversations in a staffroom or a supervision meeting as they are in a therapy room.
Training hours with Northside are accepted by UKATA, UKCP, BACP and BABCP, and our longer courses are designed to map onto professional registration pathways.

Andy is a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst in the psychotherapy field - a globally recognised qualification that represents the highest level of TA training. It means he has completed the full journey from introductory training through to advanced examination and peer review, and is qualified to train, supervise and examine others at every level.
He has worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over 25 years, in both NHS and private practice settings, and offers clinical supervision and consultancy to practitioners and organisations across a range of modalities. He is a UKCP registered therapist and supervisor, a member of BACP, and holds Senior Accreditation with BABCP.
At Northside, Andy leads the TA101, professional development groups, and a range of CPD workshops. His teaching style is grounded and practical - he's interested in helping practitioners develop confidence in what they already know, as much as in introducing new ideas.
Jane Williams - Director
Jane runs the business side of Northside Training. She has a background in human resources, training and business systems, and was Business Director of TATO (TA Training Organisation) for 12 years before Northside. She has also been the Centre Manager at The Horsforth Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy for over 10 years.
She manages everything from programme planning and operations to bookings and student support - and she's the person you'll usually speak to first if you get in touch. If you're not sure which course is right for you, or you've got a question that doesn't seem to fit anywhere on the website, Jane is a good place to start.

Ian Tomlinson, UKCP - Imago Relationship Therapy trainer.
Ian delivers couples therapy training at Northside, including the Getting Started in Couples Work course.
Joanna Groves PTSTA - Imago Relationship Therapy trainer
Joanna is a UKCP-registered psychotherapist, Certified Advanced Imago Relationship Therapist, and Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (PTSTA-P). Joanna brings a depth of relational and systemic thinking to the training that participants consistently value.
Bev Gibbons, TSTA
Bev has many years of experience of counselling, psychotherapy and training within the not for profit sector. Bev offers therapy, clinical and non-clinical supervision and training in her private practice in North Yorkshire. She is a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) in the field of psychotherapy, with an MA in TA psychotherapy, and a BA (Hons) in Counselling Studies. She is the co-trainer on the Diploma in Supervision and also facilitates the Working with Groups course.
Ronen Stilman, TSTA. Ronen has a psychotherapy and supervision private practice in Edinburgh. Ronen is a Certified Transactional Analyst with Psychotherapy specialty (CTA-P). He has an MSc in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and trained as a Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). He is an accredited member of UKCP as well as an accredited member of COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland). Ronen co-trains the Diploma in Supervision with Bev Gibbons.
Nea Clark, PTSTA,
Nea Clark is an ADHD coach, psychotherapist (MSc), supervisor and author, known for delivering practical, insightful sessions that help people truly understand how the ADHD brain works and what to do about it.
Elvin Aydin Keles, PhD, LPC, LMHC, NCC, TSTA-P is a relational psychotherapist, supervisor, educator and researcher with over twenty years of clinical experience across Turkey, the UK, Canada and the US. Elvin has developed the Key Perspectives course and offers other CPD courses at Northside.
Brad McLean
Facilitates the Couples+ Groups at Northside, including the Balint Group and the TA Couples+ Reading Group. He is a psychotherapist, Certified Transactional Analyst (Psychotherapy), and Balint group leader specialising in clinical work with gender, sexual, and relationship diverse clients. Based in Australia, he works nationally and internationally with individual and relationship clients and supervisees, practising from a contemporary relational/ psychodynamic orientation increasingly informed by Jungian ideas.
